Maria Anna Marzia Alboni, called Marietta Alboni (b. Città di Castello, Italy 1826 – d. 1894, Ville-d’Avray, France), is an Italian opera singer. After she performed in La Scala Milan, she was cast in the Imperial Bolshoi Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Afterward, she toured all the major cities in Europe, finally reaching Paris, where she settled permanently. In the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Opera, she is considered one of the greatest contraltos in the history of opera.
