Monument to Carolina Coronado

    Victoria Carolina Coronado y Romero de Tejada (b. Almendralejo, Spain, 1820 – d. 1911, Lisbon, Portugal) was a Spanish writer, famous for her poetry. She also played a diplomatic role through her marriage to Horatio Perry, the American Secretary of the U.S. Legation in Madrid. She both negotiated with the Spanish royal family in private and, through a series of widely published poems, promoted the aims of the Lincoln administration, especially the abolition of slavery. She moved to Portugal at the end of her life.
