Sarmiza Bilcescu (b. Bucharest, Romania, 1867 – d. 1935, Romania) was the first woman to receive a PhD in law from the University of Paris. She was the first woman to work as a lawyer in Romania. She was passionate about women’s rights and helped to create a committee to campaign for supplementary education for women who were denied access to higher learning.
