Dance school named after Mare Taglioni

Marie Taglioni (b. Stockholm, Sweden, 1804 – d.1884, Marseille, France) comtesse de Voisins, was a Swedish-born ballet dancer partially of Italian descent, a central figure in the history of European dance. She is credited with (though not confirmed as) being the first ballerina to truly dance en pointe. Taglioni came from a family of artists and she moved to Vienna during infancy, where she was trained and had her first debut. Before joining the Paris Opera, Taglioni danced in Munich and Stuttgart, and in 1837 she signed a 3-year contract with the Imperial Ballet in Saint Petersburg. Taglioni made several tours in Europe and retired from performing in 1847. She had residences in Venice, later in London and finally in Marseille, where she died.
