Grave and memorial for Hariclea Darclee

    Hariclea Darclée (b. Brăila, United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, 1860 – d. 1939, Bucharest, Romania) was a Romanian opera singer, the first to perform the role of Floria Tosca in the opera ”Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini. The premiere took place in Rome on January 14th, 1900. Hariclea Darclée was born in a family of Greek origins and studied music in Paris. She became famous when she made her debut in 1890 at La Scala in Milano. In between 1893 and 1910, she toured Europe and America, always coming back and singing at La Scala. Hariclea Darclée retired in Romania and died in poverty in Bucharest.
