School named after Edith Stein

Edith Stein (b. Wrocklaw, Poland, 1891 – d. 1942, Auschwitz, Poland), also known as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross or Saint Edith Stein, was a German Jewish philosopher who converted to Catholicism and became a Discalced Carmelite nun. She is canonized as a martyr and saint of the Catholic Church, and she is one of six co-patron saints of Europe. With Nazism on the rise, she took refuge in the Carmelite monastery in Echt, the Netherlands for safety, but she was taken by the Gestapo and sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where she died.
