Square named after Dalida

    Dalida, born Yolanda Cristina Gigliotti (b. Cairo, Egypt, 1933 – d. 1987, Paris, France), was an Egyptian- born French singer. There is a bronze bust of her by Aslan on this square. Born into an Italian family living in Egypt, she was elected Miss Egypt 1954 and made several films in Cairo. Residing in France from 1954, she had her first success as a singer with the title Bambino in 1956. Shaping a repertoire of more than seven hundred songs interpreted in several languages, she became a great figure of the French song and enjoys a popularity exceeding the French-speaking scene.
