Statue of Princess Amalia

    Princess Amalia of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, born Amalia Maria da Gloria Augusta (b. Ghent, Belgium, 1830 – d. 1872, Walferdange, Luxembourg) was a Dutch princess as the first wife of Prince Henry of the Netherlands, son of King William II of the Netherlands. She spetd large amounts of time in Luxembourg in her summer palace. She had a great interest in charity, which made her popular in Luxemburg. It was thanks to her that kindergartens (initiated by Friedrich Fröbel) were introduced into the area.
