Street named after Flora Sandes

    Flora Sandes (b. Nether Poppleton, United Kingdom, 1876 – d. 1956, Ipswich, United Kingdom) was a British women who served as a nurse and member of the Serbian army in WWI. She received the highest decoration for her war efforts, the Order of the Karadjordje’s star, and she was promoted to the rank of sergeant major. She was demobilized in 1922, and a few years later, she married a Russian officer from the White Army (1927). After a few years spent in France, the couple moved to Belgrade. After the death of her husband (1941), Flora moved back to England.
