Street named after Jeanne Barret

Jeanne Barret (b. La Comelle, Burgundy, France, 1740 – d. 1807, Saint-Antoine de Breuilh, Dordogne, France) disguised herself as a man (Jean) to join Louis Antoine de Bougainville’s 1766–1769 expedition around the globe, making her the first woman known to have circumnavigated the Earth. She did not return with Bougainville, instead choosing to live in Mauritius for an extended period, where she kept a tavern in Port Louis and married a French army officer. The couple returned to France around 1775, and she received an annual pension from 1785.
