Street named after Maria Sibylla Merian

    Maria Sibylla Merian (b. Free Imperial City of Frankfurt, Holy Roman Empire, 1647 – d. 1717, Amsterdam, Dutch Republic) was a German-born naturalist and scientific illustrator living in Amsterdam. She was a descendant of the Frankfurt branch of the Swiss Merian family. Merian was one of the early European naturalists to observe insects directly, and she lived in Dutch Surinam.
