This collection contains letters from Elisabeth (Betty) Mariane Magdalene Jacobsen (1843–1925) in Denmark to her nephew Mads Andreas Jacobsen (1891–1944) in the Faroe Islands. Betty Jacobsen was the first Faroese student to attend the Vallekilde folk high school in Denmark, emigrating in 1873. She later found employment at Vallekilde as its school nurse from 1888 and remained at Vallekilde after her retirement until her death at the age of 82. Mads Andreas Jacobsen was the director of the library that would become the National Library of the Faroe Islands.
