    Petition of Bridget Hanly, Killeenleigh, Thurles, County Tipperary, to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant,requesting permission to join her husband, James Hanly, who was transported to New South Wales, Australia, for stealing a lamb in 1827; claiming that her two children are in distress but she has ‘struggled hard to keep them at school’. Also damp press copy reply from Lieutenant Colonel Sir William Gosset, Under Secretary, to Rev James Mullaly, parish priest, Templemore, stating that in order for Mrs Hanly and her family to avail of free passage to the colony, a recommendation and certificate must be submitted by the governor indicating that the her husband has sufficient resources to support a family. 2
