Alexandra Yingst

WG4 - Gender equality advisor

Alexandra Yingst is a PhD student in Global Studies at the University of Iceland. Her research focuses on life onboard cruise ships and how gender and nationality intersect to shape the experiences of crew. She came to Iceland in 2016 on a Fulbright Fellowship to attend a Master’s program in coastal and marine management at the University Centre of the Westfjords and began her PhD in the country in 2019. Previously, she obtained a Bachelor of Philosophy in biological sciences, sociology, and international and area studies from the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. She also serves as the Gender Advisor for the Women on the Move COST Action and represents Iceland as a council member for the Association of Early Polar Career Scientists.
