Sirpa Salenius

Sirpa Salenius, Ph.D. is a native of Helsinki, Finland, but she resides in Florence (Italy). She teaches American Studies at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu (Finland). She has previously taught at the University of Tokyo (Japan) and at various American universities at their study abroad programs in Florence and Rome (Italy). She engages in archival research in Europe and in the United States. Her research focuses on transatlantic mobility and expatriation, on race, gender, and sexuality. Her publications include An Abolitionist Abroad: Sarah Parker Remond in Cosmopolitan Europe (2016) and Rose Elizabeth Cleveland: First Lady and Literary Scholar (2014).
