Veronika Čapská is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Philosophy (Department of Comenius Studies and Early Modern Intellectual History) of the Czech Academy of Sciences. She supervises students as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, in Prague, Czech Republic. She was a Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence in 2012 and 2014 and a Visiting Fellow at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge in 2018-2019.

In her research she focuses on early modern transcultural history, history of migrations and diasporas, gift exchange, correspondence networks, translation history, women´s and gender history and on the theory of history. She has published broadly in English, German and Czech. Her past projects entail two research monographs, a critical edition of the German diary by the Silesian noble lady Gabriela Sobkova of Kornice (1773-1808), and a collective monograph Processes of Cultural Exchange in Central Europe, 1200−1800.

Her article « Framing a Young Nun’s Initiation: Early Modern Convent Entry Sermons in the Habsburg Lands. Vestiges of a Lost Oral Culture » can be accessed online in the Cambridge Core collection. Another English article, « Servants of Francophilia. French Migrant Women as Governesses in the Bohemian Lands: (1750 – 1810) » is scheduled for publication in the Cambridge Core First View in the late summer of 2021.
