Isidora (aged 34) left Serbia for Hungaryin 2016, and moved to Slovenia in 2021.

Isidora migrated mainly because she wanted to study abroad. She eventually came to Slovenia because of her research and her partner. Today she works at the Institute of Contemporary History. Her migration is primarily linked to her professional career and the political situation.

Her migration path has been shaped by her Serbian nationality which has limited her access to academic education and employment in EU countries. She also stressed that the political instability in her country has been a major factor in her decision to live outside Serbia and seek permanent residence in a more stable society.

During her interview, she declares that “actually, now I become more and more aware of the fact that I am a migrant; that I don’t have citizenship rights; that I don’t have political rights where I live and work. I don’t even have a permanent residence.”

For her, the object that best represents her migration experience is a reprint of the journal Žena danas (Woman Today), which she purchased from an online flea market. Žena danas was a Popular Front left- feminist journal published between 1936 and 1940. Since access to sources is crucial for historians, she considers herself fortunate to have been able to bring this with her wherever she has moved.
