Milica (aged 40) left North Macedonia for Slovenia in 2016.

She migrated on a student visa, completed her Master’s Degree in French studies and is currently enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Ljubljana.

Although Milica describes her academic career as successful and fulfilling, she has faced severe obstacles in her efforts to gain permanent employment. She has felt discriminated because of her place of origin which she describes as a third world country.

Regardless of the hardships, Milica recalls how migration has made her “more resilient towards something more patience to stand up for myself, to like put myself at, like to know my rights”
