Lydia Yavorskaya, (b. Kyiv, Ukraine, 1869 – d. 1921, London, UK), was a Russian-born actress who toured Europe and the United States before establishing herself in the United Kingdom. She studied drama in St. Petersburg and Paris, becoming an acclaimed actress in Moscow, where she managed (with her husband’s support) her own theater. She was known as a fashion icon and a suffragette, introducing for the first time a stage version of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina in English, with great success. Lydia Yavorskaya toured Russia and Europe from 1907 to 1918 while also raising funds for relief work in Russia and was an opponent to the Bolsheviks. Lydia Yavorskaya escaped Russia and fled to England. She lived and worked in London from 1918 until her death.
