Elsa Triolet ( b. Moscow, Russian Empire, 1896 – d. 1970, Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines, France) was a Russian-French writer and translator. She was interested in Russian futurism and translated poetry by Vladimir Mayakovsky. In 1918 she emigrated to France in order to marry the French cavalry officer André Triolet. The marriage ended in divorce and Elsa Triolet married the French writer Louis Aragon in 1939. Triolet’s first novel Tahiti, based on her travels there in the early 1920s, was published in 1925. In 1944 she was the first woman to be awarded the famous French literature award, the Prix Goncourt.
