School named after Gisela von Bayern (Passau, Germany)

    Gisela of Hungary (b. Bavaria, Germany, 985 – d. 1065, Passau, Germany) was the first queen consort of Hungary. After marrying King Stephen I of Hungary in 996, she moved to Hungary from Germany. Queen Gisela played a fundamental role in spreading the Christian faith and Western culture in Hungary. After King Stephen died in 1038, she left Hungary to return to Bavaria, where she joined the Niederburg convent in Passau and became the abbess.
