Alma Ida Willibalde Maximiliana Karlin (b. Celje, Slovenia, 1889 – d. 1950, Pečovnik, Slovenia) was a Slovenian traveler, writer, poet, collector, polyglot and theosophist. She was one of the first European women to travel around the globe alone. The daughter of an army Major who died when she was 8 years old, after her graduating in Graz in languages (English, French, Latin, Italian, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Russian, and Spanish), she traveled the world. She later leant Persian, Chinese and Japanese, and studied languages at the Sorbonne in Paris. She completed a dictionary of ten languages (unpublished). When returning home in 1928, she wrote and studied theosophy. She resisted German invasion. An ethnologist, the objects from her travels are now kept at Celje Regional Museum.
