Street dedicated to Jeannette Villepreux-Power (Villejuif, France)

Jeannette Villepreux-Power (b. Juillac, France, 1794 – d. Juillac, France, 1871) was a pioneering French marine biologist. A seamstress, she met and married the English merchant, James Power, in 1818 and the couple moved to Sicily and settled in Messina where they lived for about 25 years. It was after moving to Sicily that Jeannette Villepreux-Power took an interest in continuing her education. She made groundbreaking discoveries, and was the first person to create aquaria for experimenting with aquatic organisms. She and husband then divided their time between Paris and London.
