Street named after Dragojla Jarnević (Zagreb, Croatia)

Dragojla Jarnević (b. Karlovac, Croatia, 1812 – d. Karlovac, Croatia, 1875) was a Croatian writer and teacher. After her education in Karlovac, she stayed in several European cities for long time periods, such as Graz, Trieste, and Venice, working as a teacher and governess in wealthy families. After returning to Karlovac, she tried to found a private girls’ school, and then she taught children of both sexes in her own home. She especially encouraged awareness of the need for better education for girls.
