Street named after Marie Skobtsova (Paris, France)

    Mother Marie Skobtsova or Saint Mary of Paris, in Russian Мать Мария (Скобцова), born Elizabeth Iourievna Pilenko (b. Riga, Livonia/ Russian Empire, 1891 – d. 1945, Ravensbrück, Germany) is a Russian poet, memorialist and member of the French resistance, who became an Orthodox nun. She migrated from Russia first to Georgia, then to Yugoslavia and arrived in Paris in 1923. She was canonized as a martyr of the Faith by the Orthodox Church (Patriarchate of Constantinople) on January 16, 2004.
