Tomb of Maria Rosetti (Bucharest, Romania)

Marie Rosetti (b. Guernsey, Channel Islands, 1819– d.1893, Bucharest, Romania) was a journalist, philanthropist and socialite. Mary traveled to Bucharest, where she began work as a tutor. It was then that she met Rosetti, Effingham Grant’s close friend and a member of the Rosetti family of boyars, who fell in love with her. She became the representation of revolutionary Romania in the 1848 iconography. Marie (in Romanian Maria) founded the first journal on child rearing entitled ‘Mama si copilul’ (Mother and child) (1865- 1866).
