Greenhouse named after Johanna Westerdijk

    Johanna (Hans) Westerdijk (b. Nieuwer-Amstel, the Netherlands, 1883 – d. 1961, Baarn, the Netherlands) was a Dutch botanist and mycologist. In 1917, she became a professor of plant pathology (phytopathology) at the University of Utrecht, making her the first female professor in the Netherlands. She studied in Amsterdam and obtained her teaching certificate in botany and zoology there. She then conducted research into liverworts in Munich with the botanist Karl Ritter von Goebel. In 1906, she obtained her doctorate in Zurich under Hans Schinz with a dissertation on the regeneration of leaf mosses.
