Memorial Garden named after Henrietta Chevalier

Henrietta Chevalier (b. Sliema, Crown Colony of Malta, 1901 – d. 1972, Malta) was born in Malta but then moved to Italy. Following the demise of her husband and as war was declared in 1940, she became stuck in Italy as a widow with six daughters and two sons. Since she had a British passport, as all other citizens of Malta did at the time due to the island being a British colony, Henrietta could have been subjected to deportation and imprisonment. During the war she was instrumental in giving shelter to several escapees in her home and helping out in provisions and medical assistance to other endangered people around Rome. She returned to Malta and was awarded with a medal for her courage.
