Plaque to Frances Burney

    Frances/Fanny Burney (b. Lynn Regis, England 1752- d. 1840 Bath, England) was a British writer, whose grandmother was a French refugee. Frances was not given a formal education, contrary to her brothers, but she learnt Italian and French as well as writing and reading by herself and started to write when she was 15. In 1802, she moved to France with her husband where they would stay until 1812, before moving to the UK.
