Hedwig « Vicki » Baum (b. Vienna, Austria, 1888 – d. 1960, Hollywood, USA) was an Jewish Austrian writer. She is known for the novel “Menschen im Hotel” and was invited to live in the United States to write a screenplay for the film based on the novel. She stayed in the United States, fleeing the rise of Nazism during WWII. She wrote her later novels in English and used her travels during her life as inspiration.
