Bertha von Suttner (b. Prague, Czech Republic, 1843 – d. 1914, Vienna, Austria) was an Austrian-Bohemian pacifist and novelist. In 1891, she founded the Austrian Society of Friends of Peace (renamed the Suttner Society in 1964). In 1905, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Her greatest achievement came through the autobiographical pacifist novel « Lay Down Your Arms! » (Die Waffen nieder!, 1899).
