Dragojla Jarnević (b. 1812, Karlovac, Croatia – d. 1875, Karlovac, Croatia) was a Croatian writer and teacher. After her education in Karlovac, she stayed in several European cities for long periods of time, including Graz, Trieste, and Venice, working as a teacher and governess in wealthy families. After returning to Karlovac, she tried to found a private girls’ school, and then she taught children of both sexes in her own home. She especially encouraged awareness of the need for better education for girls.
