Elisabeth of Austria (b. Munich, Germany, 1837 – d. 1898, Geneva, Switzerland), also known as Sissi, Sisi, or Sissy, was the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary from her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I on 24 April 1854 until her assassination in 1898. After her assassination, several sculptures depicting her were created in her honor and memory in Slovakia. This bust was originally placed in the park in front of the military artillery barracks, which was named Elizabeth’s Park (Erzsébet liget, now Lesík delostrelcov). The ceremonial unveiling of the bust took place on October 27, 1901.
