Street named after Marianne Grunberg-Manago

Marianne Grunberg-Manago (b. Paris, France, 1921 – d. 2013, Gif-sur-Yvette, France) was a distinguished biochemist known for her groundbreaking contributions to molecular biology. She played a pivotal role in the discovery of the enzyme RNA polymerase, which is crucial in the synthesis of RNA from DNA templates. Grunberg-Manago`s research, conducted in collaboration with her colleague Severo Ochoa, significantly advanced the understanding of the molecular processes underlying gene expression. In 1957, they successfully synthesized RNA in a laboratory setting, a milestone achievement in the field.
Throughout her career, she held various academic positions, including ones at the University of Paris and the Pasteur Institute. Marianne Grunberg-Manago`s work laid the foundation for subsequent research in molecular biology and showcased the vital role of RNA in cellular processes. Her contributions have left an enduring impact on the scientific community.
