Marie Salomea Skłodowska-Curie (Maria Salomea Skłodowska) (b. 1867, Warsaw, Russian Empire – d. 1934, Passy, France). She was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. As the first of the Curie family legacy of five Nobel Prizes, she was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first person and only woman to win the Nobel Prize twice – in physics (1903) and chemistry (1911). She was also the only person to win the Nobel Prize in two scientific fields. Additionally, she was the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris in 1906.
