Rosa Luxemburg (b. Zamość, Kingdom of Poland, Russia, 1871 – d. 1919, Berlin, Germany) was a German theorist of Marxism, philosopher, economist, and publicist. She was one of the most influential figures of the German and European revolutionary left social democracy. She stood at the origins of revolutionary social democracy in Poland, fighting against the nationalism of the Polish Socialist Party. She was born in the Kingdom of Poland but lived in Switzerland and Germany.
