Street named after Shoshan Damari

    Shoshana Damari (b. Dhamar, Yemen, 1923 – d. 2006, Tel Aviv, Israel) was a Yemeni- Israeli singer known as the « Queen of Hebrew Music. » Her family immigrated from Yemen to Mandate Palestine in 1924. From a young age Damari played drums and sang. At age 14, her first songs were broadcast on the radio. In 1988, Damari was awarded the Israel Prize for a Hebrew song. Damari died in Tel Aviv after a brief bout of pneumonia.
