46 pieces

This is a manuscript by Julija Beniuševičiūtė-Žymantienė (1845–1921), best known by her pen name of Žemaitė, who was an important figure in the Lithuanian National Revival. A self-taught author whose first work was published when she was 40, she wrote in the Samogitian dialect about peasants, everyday life and women’s roles in society. She emigrated during World War I to Russia and later to the United States, where one of her sons had settled. She returned to Lithuania in 1921 and died in December of the same year.
