Autograph album of Marie Marimon

This fonds contains Marie Marimon’s autograph album. The contributors include fellow female migrant artists Marietta Alboni (1826–1894), Marie Taglioni (1804–1884), Pauline Viardot (1821–1910) and Sarah Bernhardt (1844–1923). Marie Marimon (1839–1923) was a celebrated opera singer who was born in Italy and made her debut in 1857 at the Théâtre-Lyrique in Paris and enjoyed growing fame in the 1860s. She held concerts in the United States, Holland and Belgium and spent much time in England, where she sang at Covent Garden in 1871 and performed in the comic opera La fille du régiment by Donizetti at Drury Lane in 1871–1872. She returned to France in 1876 and retired from the stage in 1884. The album also includes articles on the piano bequeathed to her by Italian-born singer Alboni, which Marimon donated to the Paris Opera.
