Collection of medieval documents

The collection contains a document from King Andrija II Arpadović dated from 1220. At the queen’s request, the king gave the girl Ahaliz, whom Queen Jolanda brought from France to Hungary, a land called Widhor in the Vukovo County. Ahaliz came « from parents of noble blood »; she was at the service of the queen, who traveled with her to Hungary, where she married her to nobleman Botez. It is possible that she was also the nanny of the king’s son from his first marriage, Andrija, who was ten years old in 1220. The document also mentions that Queen Jolanda was brought to the king (for marriage) from Greece. Jolanda’s father was Peter de Courtenay, who ruled the Latin Empire based in Constantinople.
