Diary and Financial Records of Torfhildur Þorsteinsdóttir Hólm

These are the diaries of Torfhildur Þorsteinsdóttir Hólm (1845-1918) who emigrated from her homeland of Iceland to Canada in 1876, where she lived for 13 years. Her surviving diaries span only the period from February 1889 to June 1890, the period during which she returned to Reykjavík, Iceland, to advance her career as an author. Also preserved are financial records from 1887 and 1888, when she lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and supported herself independently through her work as a teacher. She was a widow at the time she emigrated to Canada and never remarried.
