O’Donoghue’s petition not present, but file does include certificate of recommendation from John Bateman, Gerald Blennerhassett, and John Blennerhassett, magistrates and gentlemen of County Limerick, in praise of the good character of James O’Donoghue, transported in March 1822, 23 June 1823. Also includes certificate of recommendation from the magistrates and gentlemen of County Limerick, in support of O’Donoghue’s wife, Mary, emphasising her distress, and urging that she and her children be granted free passage to New South Wales; signed by 6 individuals, including Darby McEgan, parish priest, 24 June 1823; and on reverse of this, a recommendation from the ladies of the neighbourhood, in support of Mary O’Donoghue’s character – signed by Elizabeth Blennerhassett, Letitia Harding, M Burke Bateman, B Bateman, and M Creagh. File also includes letter from Harstonge Robinson, Treasury chambers, Dublin, a commissioner of crown lands, to Alexander Mangin, first clerk, civil department of Chief Secretary’s Office, requesting information on Donoghue’s case, noting that ‘I feel much interested in the fate of the poor woman’s application’, 29 July 1823. 4 items; 6pp
