Letters from Betty Jacobsen to Rasmus Rasmussen

This collection includes letters from Elisabeth (Betty) Mariane Magdalene Jacobsen (1843–1925) to Rasmus Rasmussen (1871–1962) from 1894, 1895, 1896 and 1904, sent from Norway. Betty Jacobsen emigrated as a single woman to Denmark for her education in 1873, becoming the first Faroese student to attend the Vallekilde folk high school (Vallekilde Højskole), which had been founded in 1865. She returned to Vallekilde in 1888 to work as a school nurse. After retiring, she lived in her apartment at the Vallekilde school until her death at the age of 82. Rasmus Rasmussen and Símun av Skarði (1872–1942) were co-founders of the first Faroese folk high school in 1899, Føroya Fólkaháskúla.
