These letters, poetry and photographs belonged to Guðrún Jónsdóttir (1853–1951). She was engaged to the poet Þorsteinn Erlingsson but emigrated in 1889 to North America and managed the household of her widowed brother, Halldór. She lived with her niece Þuríður and, after Þuríður’s death, alone. She died in Cleveland.
