The collection contains letters between the German poet and dramatist Nelly Sachs (1891–1970) and Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf (1858–1940), who won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1909. In her letters Sachs asked Lagerlöf to assist her to emigrate from Nazi Germany to Sweden.
