    This fonds contains letters written by Augusta Van den Heuvel to Valerie Couvent during her trip to the United States with her husband Jules Van den Heuvel, between August and November 1893. The Van den Heuvel couple visited several cities such as Washington, New York, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco, as well as the World’s Fair in Chicago. In her correspondence, A. Van den Heuvel shares her impressions of the « Americans, the high cost of living, the presence of people of colour in the cities, and the habits of waiters in restaurants.
