Collection title: Αρχείο Έλλη Αλεξίου| Elli Alexiou Papers (Greece, France, Romania, 1949-1975)
Description: The Collection contains letters, personal papers, and documents from Elli Alexiou’s political activities in Romania, along with written works by the Greek pedagogist and writer. Elli Alexiou was born on May 22, 1894, in Heraklion, Crete (Greece). She worked as a teacher starting in 1914 and as a French teacher from 1919. After her marriage in 1920, she settled in Athens. She studied at the German School of Athens (1921-1924) and at Sorbonne (1945-1948). Following the Greek Civil War (1945-1949), she lived in Romania until 1962, working at the Children’s Aid Committee. In 1962, she returned to Greece and remained there until her death in 1988.
