Manar (aged 40) left Syria in 2012 to Italy.
She decided to leave Syria amid the violence that was tearing the country apart, and was happy to find an academic opportunity in Local Development Studies in Italy to pursue her education, and to later become a consultant working with several national and international organizations on community development.
During her interview, she declares that she embraced the fact that she is a citizen of the world, totally stateless. Her state is the whole universe and she’s never going to find home.
For her, the object that best represents her migration experience is a bracelet that was gifted to her by her mother.
