Bridge named after Dagmar Šimková (Písek, Czech Republic)

    Dagmar Šimková (b. Písek, Czech Republic, 1929 – d. 1995, Perth, Australia) was a painter, writer, political activist and a political prisoner during the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia. After the Soviet lead occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968, Šimková emigrated together with her mother to Australia to join her sister. In Australia, she graduated with two university degrees and exhibited her art. She wrote an autobiographic book about her experience, became a therapist in prison and joined Amnesty International.
