Bust of Constance Marcieveick (Dublin, Ireland)

    Constance Georgine Markievicz (b. London, England, 1868 – d. 1927, Dublin, Ireland) was an Irish politician, revolutionary, nationalist, suffragist, socialist, and the first woman elected to the Westminster Parliament. Born to wealthy parents she grew up in London, UK, and spent some time in Paris, France, becoming known as a  landscape painter, before moving to Ireland in 1903 with her husband. She was elected Minister for Labour in the First Dáil, becoming the first female cabinet minister in Europe.
